Drinking Water Laboratory

Overview of laboratory services

Legionella may be present in surface water, within the ground, and even in groundwater in small quantities. This is why a small quantity of Legionella may be present in drinking water from water works. These microorganisms proliferate optimally at temperatures between 25 and 50 °C in water heating systems. Factors favouring the proliferation of Legionella in warm water include excessively low water heater system temperatures, the presence of biofilms, and long periods of stagnation.

Examination of drinking water

Strict limit values are defined in the Drinking Water Ordinance. This ensures that drinking water is clean and can be enjoyed freely. The chemical and microbiological contents of drinking water are expertly analysed at accredited testing laboratories using modern analytical devices. Our laboratory offers comprehensive services related to drinking water analysis to both plumbing companies and public and commercial institutions:

  • Drinking water samples taken by certified samplers and via sample transport
  • Analysis of drinking water samples for Legionella, other bacteria and chemicals
  • Preparation of a drinking water quality certificate
  • Coordination with specialist sanitary plants; referral of expert companies for renovation and hazard analyses, if required
