Overview of laboratory services

A high-performance and well controlled, working immune system is the prerequisite for effective defence against pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi) as well as for the destruction of tumour cells. Immunodeficiency facilitates frequent and recurrent infections and increases the risk of cancer. Meanwhile, excessive immune cell activity often leads to chronic inflammatory disorders. Inappropriate immune system reactivity is the basis of allergies and autoimmune disorders.

State-of-the-art techniques to facilitate sensitive and specific examination of patient samples are available in accredited cell culture laboratories to comprehensively assess the individual performance of the various immune system components. When testing immune function using cell cultures, the tests must be conducted in compliance with controlled quality standards and facilitate expedient diagnosis of immune system disorders or malfunctions.
