Histamine intolerance

Special diagnostics to detect histamine intolerance

Histamine intolerance is defined as an imbalance between histamine accumulation and histamine breakdown. This is caused either by a deficit in the histamine degrading enzymes diamine oxidase (DAO) or histamine-N-methyl transferase (HNMT) or imbalance between ingested histamine concentrations and enzyme activity. Possible symptoms of histamine intolerance are headaches, diarrhoea, itching, Flush-symptoms or asthmatic attacks. Histamine, its metabolites and DAO activity can be determined diagnostically.
