Acid-base diagnostics

Maintaining adequate buffer capacity

The treatment of acid-base metabolic disorders in chronic diseases is firmly anchored in naturopathic medicine. Publications and observational studies prove the efficacy, whereby oral forms of treatment for the correction of the acid-base ratios dominate. Moreover, it is being discussed whether increased supply of bases should be used as first-line treatment, or whether optimisation of multiple metabolic performances in the body satisfies the requirements on a causal and "proper" therapy. Nutritional habits play a significant role and therefore a base-rich diet – which largely corresponds to a healthy whole food diet – is of major importance.

Optimal anabolic function is possible only when the micronutrient status is optimal and the buffer reserve sufficient. Novel infusion systems meanwhile provide user-friendly options for parenteral base therapy, which can be used as rapid and intense but safe treatment options for many indications.
